Position Summary for the Application Engineer

Evoqua Water Technologies is currently searching for an Application Engineer. This position will provide process applications engineering and sales support for the sale or rental of air and water treatment equipment and systems for the Proact Environmental Services Division of Evoqua Water Technologies.


This is a remote position that can be located anywhere in the United States.

Core Responsibilities and Tasks for the Application Engineer

  • Evaluate proposal requests from sales, coordinate the design of systems and turnkey installations, develop technical proposal documents
  • Review customer requirements/specifications for treated water quantity and quality and define the customer deliverables to meet the same.
  • Design treatment process scheme and system based on customer requirements and/or specifications.  This includes, but is not limited to, process design, equipment selection and sizing, generating drawings, calculations, data sheets, vendor literature, and develop operating and maintenance documents.
  • In conjunction with Manufacturing and Operations, develop cost estimates for capital equipment and components, turnkey installation, service offerings and operating cost assumptions.
  • Complete recommendations for alternatives or changes to customer specifications and/or processes to better match company products to customer requirements.
  • Develop technical portion (scope, drawings) of the sales proposal while providing support to sales as required.
  • Perform investigations and analyze field problems as directed by Operations and Sales team.
  • Participate/lead in meetings for proposal development activities. 
  • Participate with the AE manager in developing programs and policies for AE function ensuring they are in alignment with the business’ strategic objectives; participate in the development of other processes intended to optimize overall business execution/efficiency

Position Requirements

•    Requires BS/BA degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering Preferred)
•    2+ yrs of experience


•    Advanced knowledge of business tools, processes and procedures. 
•    Ability to conduct and understand water quality projections. 
•    Competency in multiple standard equipment  platforms and their employment. 
•    Thorough understanding of common components and their application. 
•    Able to execute complex tasks with limited guidance. 
•    Effectively collaborates with other disciplines in a team environment. 
•    Solid understanding of the sales process and how organizational role influences outcome. 
•    General understanding of financial principals as related to tasks assigned. 
•    Working understanding of contractual terms and conditions.

  • Good technical writing skills and strong written and verbal communication skills a must. 
  • Candidate must be able to perform in a fast-paced team environment while focusing on customer deliverables with defined deadlines as well as have a demonstrated ability to guide others in a relevant technical area.
