Position Summary

Xylem is hiring for a Project Engineer to be based out of one of our locations in the US. This role will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of documentation related to Engineering, Manufacturing & Commissioning of Air Pollution Control Systems primarily used in municipal water and wastewater treatment plants. Engineer should be able to operate independently; responsible for moderate to advance complex projects configuration of customer solutions of moderate to advanced complexity. Responsible for a variety of project engineering tasks.

Core Responsibilities and Tasks

 

  • Ensures engineering and design tasks are completed on time and on budget while upholding the highest quality along with meeting Customer technical requirements.
  • Perform process calculations to size, or verify sizing, of Vapor Phase Odor Control Systems and their internal components and accessories to customer supplied specifications. Performs calculations associated with: FRP vessel & duct design, material selection, sizing pumps / blowers / low voltage AC electric motors, piping / valves, and instrumentation / electrical controls based on the project specifications.
  • Creating part numbers and bills of material in SAP as well as the preparation of drawings for products sold to meet project specification.
  • Preparing approval drawings for customers where approval is required, monitoring the approval process, and creating releases when approval is received. Drawings and specifications are to reflect customer requirements as stipulated in their purchase order, project specifications and approved design.
  • Prepare and submit operating and maintenance manuals for equipment sold where required by customer purchase order/specifications. 
  • Support the product Engineering Change Notice (ECN) system, creating and releasing new ECNs where necessary and advantageous. Reasons may include product improvement, cost reduction, compliance with newly produced regulations, and the like. Included is supervising the creation or change of engineering drawings to support the change.
  • Communicates with the Technical Sales Engineer and Project Manager on technical decisions and project deliverables.
  • Interfaces with Product Management, Manufacturing and external Suppliers for product enhancement, component selection, system manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Supports the Sales & Application Engineering for bid proposal and cost estimates review, technical input, etc.
  • Learns and utilizes available tools for new part creation and bill of material (BOM) upload.

  • Configures solutions in support of larger projects based on project specifications. 
  • Independent execution of assigned tasks.
  • Independently plans and prioritizes work assignments. 
  • Cooperates and contributes effectively internal and external customers. 
  • May direct work assignments scheduling and reviews of work in progress.

Position Requirements

FORMAL EDUCATION: 

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 4-10 yrs. of experience

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years hand-on experience with Autodesk Inventor Professional 3D CAD. Autodesk certification will be a plus.
  • Able to executive tasks autonomously; limited guidance required for complex tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of operational processes as defined in work area.
  • Able to collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Ability to understand concepts in project execution and strong organization skills. 
  • Strong understanding of business acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Additional Details

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS - 10%

Salary - $80,000-100,000
