Want to work for a company making an impact on the environment? Evoqua Water Technologies, the global leader in helping municipalities and industrial customers protect and improve the world’s water is currently seeking an experienced EHS Manager in the Tewksbury, MA facility.

 

This is an interactive, hands on role for an experienced EH&S professional. This position requires someone with qualifications (including education and experience) in a manufacturing environment, as well as strong leadership and communications skills. The role provides direct support on a broad array of activities specific, and ensures employee/business compliance including Federal, State, business and corporate safety requirements as well as adherence to corporate policies and standards.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead by example, engage and provide expert hands-on technical involvement to inspire employees to follow processes that achieve and maintain full compliance.
  • Coordinate with Corporate and Organizational Leadership to develop short and long-term strategies to achieve a total compliance management systems and demonstrate a strong commitment to EH&S excellence and a passion for occupational safety.
  • Introduce and support best practices across organization to ensure continuous learning and improvement.
  • Ensure that all required permits are up to date and procedures are in place to obtain and update as required.
  • Manage activities related to EH&S compliance, reporting, regulatory permitting, hazardous waste handling, and waste reduction/recycling programs, and set up necessary EH&S systems to audit and modifies plans to continuously improve compliance and EH&S culture.
  • Analyzes leading and lagging data to create relevant summaries and action plans, and communicates findings and actions to help prevent safety incidents including near misses.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements on recordkeeping, including employee exposure monitoring and training.
  • Accountable for working directly with management to implement required elements of the EH&S Management System, ISO 14001, ISO 18001 and other activities related to EH&S programs.
  • Prepare and present employee EH&S training to satisfy regulatory and company requirements.
  • Implement the company’s Behavior-Based Safety program and monitor the programs ongoing effectiveness.
  • Establish injury awareness and safe work behavior programs that aim to increase awareness of risks and bring attention to safe work practices.
  • Lead and facilitate incident investigations (including near loss incidents), through the use of effective root cause analysis techniques, and identify appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents and to address and take immediate action on any required preventive measures.
  • Assure that EH&S recordkeeping systems are maintained to satisfy regulatory and company requirements, including employee training records, employee exposure monitoring documentation, EH&S program audits and assessments, and other records.
  • Collects and evaluates EH&S data and identify and address trends related to employee work related injuries and illnesses and facilitate resolution of plant-wide safety issues.
  • Maintain strong familiarity with current and proposed EH&S regulatory requirements and corporate requirements, recommends path forward to site leadership, and implements appropriate program measures to ensure compliance.
  • Responsible for signing off on safety aspects of capital projects and other changes to ensure concept, design, and installation meet site/Corporate and security requirements.
  • Ensure that the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) process is incorporated and followed in the assignment of new work and projects.
  • Ensure appropriate resources are in place and accountabilities clearly defined to establish and maintain operating and administrative procedures, audit compliance, and maintain a focus of continuous improvement and communications.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum 2 years in an EH&S role in a manufacturing environment, with emphasis on chemical and material handling safety.
  • Minimum 1 years managing EH&S programs.
  • Advanced certifications, such as OHST, ASP, CSP, and/or CIH are preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related science is preferred.
  • Experience implementing ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 systems.
  • Experience in state and federal OSHA, US DOT, and USEPA regulations as well as other regulatory standards (i.e. ANSI, NIOSH, NFPA, and NEC).
  • Experience in recognizing, evaluating, and recommending controls for workplace hazards.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and managing EH&S programs in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent verbal and written (technical) communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and foster a compliant / safety-first culture in the workplace.
  • High energy/self-motivated/change agent with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of a workforce as well as with customers and regulators.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate multiple project activities concurrently.
