POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the product flow and processes throughout all three Thomasville buildings.  Incumbent will take the lead developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Works with a team or alone to recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls. Coordinates with team members on manufacturing launch for new or revised products. Priorities include process improvement, problem resolution, project management, SAP part routings, make vs buy analysis and employee training. Uses lean manufacturing methodologies to help improve lead-times, quality and cost by removing waste and increasing value to our customers. Creates and maintain the documentation needed for products and processes.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipmen
  • Identifies and calculates cost of labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents
  • Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods, and controls.
  • Coordinates manufacturing launch for new and revised products
  • Priorities include process improvement, problem resolution, project management, and employee training
  • Performance research, design and development of manufacturing processes, including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment
  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products, including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating result
  • Designs, develops, tests or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Creates and maintains standard work documents
  • Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams; Leads and supports lean manufacturing initiatives including cost reductions and productivity improvements
  • Prepares estimates and reports based on calculations per customer requirements

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

  • BS Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 10+ years experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering and/or Operations
  • Experience in leading Lean Manufacturing events (Kaizen, 5S, etc.)
  • Certifications an advantage including Six Sigma Black Belt, SME/Shingo Lean Bronze Practitioner

 

 

  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

         

 Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.

 Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.

 Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

 Must be able to climb and descend stairs.

 Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.

 Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.

 May work indoors and outdoors as needed. Exposure to heat up to 120 degrees and cold to 0 degrees.

 May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.

 May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.

 Work surfaces may include concrete.

 Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.

 Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.
